Born as Jagdish Vasudev or “Jaggi”, on September 3rd, 1957 he is better known as “Sadhguru”. He was born and raised in Mysore, Karnataka. His mother Susheela Vasudev, a homemaker and father B.V. Vasudev, was a physician at the Mysuru Railway Hospital. He is the youngest of 5 children born to his parents. Vasudev completed his schooling from Demonstration School and his graduation in Bachelor’s of English from University of Mysore.

Being like any other human he also completed his formal studies and started his career as a businessperson. He became a well-set off businessman at a young age. He rented his businesses to his friend and travelled for about a year and explored various places. He taught his first yoga class in Mysore in 1983 and started giving yoga-classes without any fees. He used to give classes across Karnataka and Hyderabad, riding on his bike and subsisting on the produce of his poultry farm rental and donating the collections received from his students.
He experienced his spiritual awakening at the age of 25 and thus decided to follow his call and started teaching yoga . His yoga classes became very popular that 15-20,000 people attended the classes at a time.
and as of now he had the Satsang/ religious teachings in various countries including America, Africa etc.
Isha Foundation operates in over 300 cities in countries such as Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Singapore, the UAE, Uganda, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Wife and Daughter
Sadhguru was born on 3 September in 1957 and is 64 years old. He met his wife Vijaykumari, whom he addresses fondly as Vijji, in 1984 in Mysore and the two got married after exchange of some love letters. they were blessed with a daughter, Radhe in 1990 who is now a Bharatanatyam Dancer and is married to Sandeep Narayan, a Chennai-based classical vocalist.
In year 1997, his wife died, which in other words is stated as she attained the “mahasamadhi” at the Isha Yoga Center. Later after 7 months of this incident, a complaint was filled against him in charge of dowry harassment. The case was closed because there was no evidence or any suspicious activity found against him.
Isha foundation was established in 1992 which operates an ashram and Yoga Centre that carry out educational and spiritual activities. Isha is based on the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains of Coimbatore. Yoga workshops are run there all by the volunteers, as ISHA YOGA

Sadhguru’s YouTube videos are largely seen by audience from India as well as from other countries too. His YouTube channel and has views in millions. His videos mainly educates about Physical, Spiritual and mental health of an individual. He is also an author and has written many books including Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide to Joy and Karma: A Yogi’s Guide to Crafting Your Destiny; which have made it to The New York Times Best Seller list.
He was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award from the Government of India in 2017 in recognition to his contribution to the field of spirituality and his efforts towards environmental issues.
He was introduced with Malladihalli Sri Raghavendra Swami ji, a prominent yoga teacher, at the age of 12. Swami ji taught him a set of simple yoga asanas which he regularly practiced without even a single day’s break.
At the age of 25, while being on a travel journey he had his spiritual experience which made him rethink his life’s purpose. He subsequently realized his true calling of becoming a yoga teacher.
Environmental Issues addressed
Rally for Rivers, a month-long, nationwide campaign was launched by Isha Foundation in 2017 to address the scarcity of water across rivers in India and instill awareness about protecting rivers. The campaign was on 3rd September from Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore.
The Cauvery Calling project is a project of conserving Cauvery Basin by covering the 1/3rd of the basin by planting 2.4 billion tress and to support farmers in planting the trees.
