Shruti Haasan is an Indian film actress and singer who works in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil-language films. Shruti started her career as a playback singer in the 1992 Tamil film Thevar Magan at the age of six.

Shruti Haasan was born in Madras (now Chennai) to actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. Her father is a Tamilian. Her younger sister Akshara Haasan is also an actress. Her cousins are actresses Anu Hasan and Suhasini Maniratnam. Haasan did her schooling from Lady Andal school in Chennai and moved to Mumbai to study psychology at St. Andrew’s College.
Shruti focused on cinema and music, and eventually went to US to continue to learn music at the Musicians Institute in California.
She was born in a Hindu Iyengar Brahmin family. Her father is Kamal Haasan, the legendary Indian actor, and her mother is the popular Indian actress, Sarika Thakur. Kamal Haasan is a Tamilian, whereas Sarika was born to a Maharashtrian father and a Rajput mother. Shruti has a younger sister, Akshara Haasan who is an actress too.
Her uncle is the famous lawyer and actor Charuhasan, cousin of South Indian actresses Anu Hasan and Suhasini Maniratnam, and her brother-in-law is the famous Indian director Mani Ratnam.
In 2010 she started dating the Indian actor Siddharth Suryanarayan. She was reportedly in a relationship with Siddharth. They were together for more than a year old, but they were later split up due to some incompatibility issues.
In 2011, rumors were circulating that Shruti was dating “Kolaveri Di” singer Dhanush. In 2012, Shruti Haasan denied her rumors and said that she did not have a love affair with him, and that she was just her a good friend of hers.

Shruti’s first appearance in a feature film was a cameo role as the daughter of Vallabhbhai Patel in the Tamil-Hindi bilingual film Hey Ram, based on a murder attempt on Mahatma Gandhi, directed by her father Kamal Haasan. After rejecting many film offers, reports suggested that in 2007 Shruti was set to make her actual acting debut in 2008 with a film opposite Madhavan named Endrendrum Punnagai, the film was stalled before production began.
She made her lead actor debut in Bollywood in the 2009 multi-star Hindi film, “Luck”. His childhood friend, Imran Khan, who was also one of the actors in the film, suggested his name to the directors of this film. But unfortunately the movie was a flop, and she received huge negative reviews and criticism from many Indian film critics renowned for her poor acting skills.
In 2011, she made her Telugu debut opposite Siddharth in the film, ‘Anaganaga O Dheerudu.’ The film received a good opening, and she received great appreciation and reviews from critics. The Film was a great success. In the same year, she debuted as a lead actor in the Tamil film, ‘7aum Arivu’ opposite Suriya.

She sang the Hindi and Tamil version of the song, ‘Rama Rama’ from the film, “Hey Ram’ in 1992.
