Early life

Pilgaonkar learned as a child to become a professional swimmer and, while in school, received many medals. Believing that when she grew up she would become a translator or a linguist, Pilgaonkar also took Japanese classes when she was a child. Pilgaonkar finished her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai and later chose to take a different path. As a boy, Pilgaonkar learned the Kathak dance.
Career
Pilgaonkar first came on television at the age of five in the Hindi series Tu Tu Main Main, playing a role called Bittu. In 2012, Pilgaonkar made her stage debut with her appearance in Freedom Of Love, Karan Shetty’s 10-minute short play. The play was a part of the Short and Sweet Festival at the NCPA. She did acting, dancing and singing in the play.
With the 2013 Marathi film Ekulti Ek, Pilgaonkar made her big-screen debut after her role in Freedom of Love. She plays Swara, the daughter of Arun Deshpande (Sachin Pilgaonakar) and Nandini in the movie (Supriya Pilgaonkar). Her father (Sachin Pilgaonkar), who wrote, directed, and produced the film, offered her the role of Swara.
Pilgaonkar said, “He has been credited for launching many talents, including my mother. Pilgaonkar participated in other stage and film projects following her role in Ekulti Ek. She was approached to star in Internal Affairs and Common People by theatre veteran actor Akarsh Khurana. After acting in both, she was given an opportunity to work in the French film Un plus une, directed by Claude Lelouch, the Oscar-winning producer. She played the role of Ayanna, a dancer, and actor from India, in the film.
Pilgaonkar made her Bollywood debut in the year 2016 film, Fan, written and directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by Aditya Chopra through Yash Raj Films. For her part, Pilgaonkar was chosen from the audition of 750 girls conducted by Maneesh Sharma, and she considered a major breakthrough to get a role alongside Shah Rukh Khan. In the film, she plays the role of Neha, a call center girl from Delhi and a friend of Gaurav’s. She was filming at the same time for both the Fan and Un plus une films.
Pilgaonkar was overwhelmed by the response after Fan’s publication. She said at the movie’s reception program, “Honestly, I did not want to have any expectations because it was a small role and we had two Shah Rukhs in the fulfill but I am so happy that everyone took notice and has acknowledged my performance.”
