Pragya Thakur or Sadhvi Pragya is an Indian Politician and Hindu Activist. She is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) and is mostly known for her Controversial Statements.

Pragya Thakur was born on 2 February 1970 in Bhind Madhya Pradesh. Her father, Chandrapal Singh, was a demonstrator in the agriculture department, an Ayurvedic practitioner, and associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
She received her education from her village, Lahar. She connected with the student wing of RSS, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). She has received an M.A. degree in History from a college in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh.
Career:-
Pragya Thakur was a sporty member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and later joined Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
In 2019, Pragya won the General Election against the Congress leader Digvijaya Singh from the Bhopal Constituency of Madhya Pradesh.
Controversies:-
On 29 September 2008, planted three bombs in Gujarat and Maharashtra. Exploded Two bombs near a mosque in Maharashtra, which killed six people and injured 100. Pragya was imprisoned for nine years. However, in 2017, she was given a clean chit and acquitted of all charges.
Pragya got arrest in Sunil Joshi’s death case in December 2007.
Sunil Joshi proposed to her for marriage, which she rejected. Later, Sunil was found dead, for which she was arrested. In 2017, she got freed from the charge.
Pragya Thakur is known for her controversial and provocative statements. In the 2018 Gujarat speech, she referred to Sonia Gandhi as Italy Wali Bai’ (a Maid from Italy).
In May 2019, she referred to Nathuram Godse as a patriot. Later, Prime minister Narendra Modi said that he would never forgive her for insulting the nation’s father.
Pragya was removed from a consultative committee of the defense ministry a day after her comment on Mahatma Gandhi.
During the 2019 General Election Campaigns, Election Commission banned her for 72 hours. The reason for her ban is that she was seeking a vote on a religious basis, which breached the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). She commented on the Babri Mosque demolition and said- “We removed a bolt from the country. We went to pull down the structure and I feel extremely proud that God gave me the opportunity to do that. We will make sure Ram mandir will be built at that site.”
In August 2019, she started a controversy by saying that the opposition was using “Marak Shakti” to harm the BJP leaders.
On 19 April 2019, she said that the 26/11 hero Hemant Karkare died because she had “cursed” him. According to her, when she was arrested in the Malegaon Blast case, Hemant was told to leave her. But he refused to do so despite having no proof against her. She then cursed him, and he was killed in the terrorist attack due to the curse, as per her statement.
