Career
CNBLUE was formed in 2009. After forming, CNBLUE visited Japan to research musical styles and gauge the tastes of listeners. The Japanese people responded favorably to the group’s live performances on the streets. They started producing their debut album at this time. In Japan, CNBLUE released its debut mini-album Now or Never in August 2009. The Japanese audience reacted favorably toward the English-language album.
They made their formal debut in Korea in January 2010 with the release of their first mini album, Bluetory, which featured the title tune I’m a Loner. In December 2013, Jonghyun and a member of his label, Juniel, worked together on the song Romantic J.
Solo Career
Later in 2010, Jonghyun and Kang Min Hyuk, a bandmate, had an appearance in the movie Acoustic. in 2012, he became interested in the play A Gentleman’s Dignity and joined the cast. He performed admirably in front of the audience, yet he was still hesitant and uneasy. He has claimed that his music is his strength, that he excels at it, and that he lacks the confidence to pursue other things.
He played the lead in the films Adolescence Melody (2013) and One Sunny Day (2014), respectively. Sparkling Night, Jonghyun’s debut solo album, was a success in both Japan and South Korea when it was released there in July 2016. More than 13000 copies of the record were sold, which enabled Jonghyun to perform in his debut solo show.
Jonghyun also published a book named Skeleton Flower: Things That Have Been Released and Set Free which has his inspirations and songwriting experiences.
Death
On December 18, 2017, the 27-year-old singer was discovered unresponsive in a luxury hotel in Seoul. By consuming too much carbon monoxide, the singer killed himself. Jonghyun was in depression and had no choice but to suicide. He wrote text messages to his elder sister which had a hint about suicide in it.
His sister informed the police immediately. When police arrived at his hotel, he was found unconscious due to carbon monoxide inhalation. He was immediately taken o the hospital, but couldn’t survive. His family asked for no postmortem of his body and did his last rites in presence of everyone.
His family established a foundation named Shiny which helps the struggling young artists.
