Jaya Bachchan is an Indian film actress and politician who was born on 9 April, 1948. Her birthplace is Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh nut her hometown is Pune, Maharashtra, India. She is known as Jaya Bhaduri.
Her father name was Taroon Kumar Bhaduri who is an author and poet. His famous book Obhishopto Chambol which reports on his experiences as a journalist /writer in the religion. Her mother Indira Bhaduri was a homemaker. He was married to Amitabh Bachchan who is also an actor and politician in 3 June 1973. She saw Amitabh for the first time at Pune’s Film Institute in 1970. They finally met him officially through Hrishikesh Mukherjee on the sets of Guddi in 1971. Their friendship turned into love while shooting for the film ‘Ek Nazar'(1972) and married after the success of the film ‘Zanjeer'(1973).She has one son and daughter named Abhishek Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan. She also has one granddaughter named Aaradhya Bachchan. Her present residence is Juhu, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
She did her schooling from St. Joseph’s Convent School, Bhopal and completed her college degree from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune in Diploma in Acting. She was bestowed with Best All-India N.C.C. Cadet Award all through 1966’s Republic Day celebrations.
She did her debut with a Bengali movie Mahanagar by Satyajit in the year 1963 when she was a teenager at the age 15. Later, She appeared in Hrishikesh Mukherjee directed film Guddi where she performed as a lead role and with this she gets collaborated with several films and emerged herself in the Bollywood. Bachchan has also wrote the script of Shahenshah which starred her husband in the lead. She was one of the best Hindi film actress of her time who knows for her naturalist style of acting. Some of her popular Bollywood films are Uphar(1971), Koshish(1972) and Kora Kagaz(1974).
Apart from these films, she acted with her husband in many other Bollywood films such as Zanjeer(1973), Abhimaan(1973), Chpke Chupke(1973),Mili(1975), and Sholay(1975). Her last film as a lead actress was Silsila in 1981. After the birth of their children , Jaya limited his work to the cinema and left acting after the year 1981. After the break, she acted as a supporting actor in various films.
Also, her married life went through a rough phase for the rumours of his husband and Rekha’s affair. But Jaya stopped Amitabh to act in films with Rekha. Jaya has appeared in various television commercials with her husband.
During her career, Jaya has also received a number of awards recognizing her talents in Bollywood. She won nine Filmfare Awards: including for Best Actress and three for Best Supporting Actress. She was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. In 1992, she was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India, 4th highest civilian award of India. She is the only actress in Bollywood who is FTII Gold Medalist from Pune.
She is currently a member of the Samajwadi party in Rajya Sabha. Firstly she was elected in 2004 as a member of Samajwadi Party, representing Uttar Pradesh in Rajya Sabha until march 2006. Again she re-elected from June 2006 to July 2010 and in February 2010 she announced his intention to finish his term. Then she was again re-elected in 2012 and then in 2018 forth the third and fourth time respectively as Rajya Sabha of the Samajwadi Party.
