Early Life

Jason Pierre-Paul was born on the 1st of January, 1989, in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

He is the son to Haitian immigrants who arrived in the United States in 1983.

At Deerfield Beach High School, Pierre-Paul lettered in basketball for four years.

After a serious leg injury, while playing basketball, he took up football in his junior year.

Career

After suffering a serious leg injury in high school, Jason decided to try out for football and, as expected, proved to be very good.

He was a standout freshman at College of the Canyons, earning All-America honors for his efforts on the sports field.

Jason had an impressive season at Fort Scott Community College, earning First-team Little All-American honors, proving his worth to the team.

He transferred to the University of South Florida and had a standout junior season before deciding to forgo a senior season.

Entering The NFL Draft

Paul-Pierre entered the 2010 NFL draft alongside other notable players, including athletes such as Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy and Eric Berry.

To nobody’s surprise, he was selected by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft on a five-year, $20.05 million deal.

At the Giants, he played alongside such notable footballers as Eli Manning, Justin Tuck, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.

After making his NFL debut in September 2010, he went on to enjoy a stellar season in 2011 with 16.5 sacks and numerous accolades.

Pierre-Paul was a major contributor to the Giants’ postseason success, which included a 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI.

He was ranked at number 24 on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2012, receiving the nomination for his fellow players.

Achieved His First Super Bowl Victory

He was NFC Defensive Player of the Week many times during 2011, and played a key role in the Giants’ Super Bowl XLVI victory.

He ran out alongside Antrel Rolle, Michael Boley and Ahmed Bradshaw and achieved his first career interception returned for a touchdown in 2012.

Jason was once again selected to the Pro Bowl in 2012 but tragedy struck when he needed back surgery in 2013 followed by a return in Week 1.

He had an interception returned for a touchdown against the Packers in 2013 and faced off against Randall Cobb, Eddie Lacy and Aaron Rodgers that year.

Jason enjoyed a strong season in 2014 with 12.5 sacks and the franchise clearly indicated their intention to keep him on for another season.

Unfortunately, he was involved in a Fourth of July holiday fireworks accident, injuring his hand and having his finger amputated.

Sported A Padded Club

He returned to the field with a “monstrous padded club” in 2015 and completed the 2015 NFL season despite facing some difficulties.

Paul-Pierre required surgery on his hand in the 2016 off season, returned to the field for a three-sack game, and won NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

He was clearly struggling, and surgery for a hernia resulted in a missed postseason in 2016 before signing a four-year, $62 million contract extension.

After an average 2017 season, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2018, joining players like Jameis Winston, Lavonte David, and Chris Godwin.

He started the season in top form and recorded a team-leading 12.5 sacks with the Buccaneers during the course of the 2018 season.

Amputation As A Result Of A Car Accident

His luck ran out, and he sustained a neck fracture in a car accident in 2019, but returned to football activities for the 2019 season.

He negotiated a successful contract extension with the Buccaneers in 2020 and was selected to the Pro Bowl after a successful season.

Pierre-Paul has his first sack of the year against Drew Brees in Week 1’s 34–23 defeat to the New Orleans Saints.

The next week, in the team’s 31-17 victory over the Carolina Panthers, Pierre-Paul caused a fumble on Teddy Bridgewater and recovered it, leading to one sack of the quarterback.

Pierre-Paul had 1.5 sacks, forced a fumble in the victory over the Packers in Week 6, and intercepted a pass in Week 10.

Pierre-Paul hadn’t intercepted a pass since the 2013 campaign and during the Los Angeles Rams’ 27–24 defeat in Week 11, racked up six total tackles.

Another Super Bowl Appearance

After two pass deflections, and an interception, he was selected for another Super Bowl appearance and victory in 2020.

Due to an ongoing torn rotator cuff injury that required surgery after the season, Pierre-Paul’s output was significantly affected in 2021.

He struggled with his fitness and was absent from Weeks 3–4 and 16–18 of the season with continued niggling injuries.

Pierre-Paul then signed with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022, joining celebrated players like Lamar Jackson, Mark Andrews, Calais Campbell and Patrick Queen.

In 2023, he signed with the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, later signing with the Miami Dolphins for the season.

A lackluster string of games saw him exit the team at the end of the 2023 and he is no longer with the Miami Dolphins.
